The prophet Zechariah
Zechariah was one of the Old Testament’s “twelve minor prophets” and lived circa 520 BCE.
Zechariah encouraged Jews returning from captivity in Babylon to rebuild the Temple that King Nebuchadnezzar had destroyed in 587 BCE. Zechariah prophesied about the Kingdom of the Messiah and the wonderful future that would ensue when the King of Zion and Jerusalem arrived poor and riding on a donkey.
The statue
Zechariah is depicted with a blank gaze turned to heaven. In his hands, he holds a rock with seven eyes, which he saw in a vision. On the plinth is the rebuilt Temple.
